MLAX: Lasell Opens GNAC Play with 18–13 Win at Dean
Franklin, MA- The Lasell University men's lacrosse team earned its first conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Dean College 18–13 in a GNAC matchup at Grant Field.
Lasell struck early with three quick goals from Jason Martin, Julian Vogel, and Jack Condon to take a 3–0 lead midway through the first quarter. Dean responded with four straight goals to briefly move in front before Condon netted his second of the game and Nick Halesworth added another in the final minute, sending the game into the second quarter tied 5–5.
The back-and-forth pace continued in the second. Carson Tucker opened the scoring before Nate Campbell and Martin added goals to push the Lasers ahead. Dean countered each time, with Nick Fernandez leading the Bulldogs' offense as the teams headed into halftime knotted at 10–10.
Lasell took control in the third quarter, outscoring Dean 5–2 in the frame. Campbell scored twice within the first 10 seconds of the period to spark the run, followed by a man-up goal from Martin. After Dean trimmed the deficit, Colin LeBaron found the back of the net twice late in the quarter, including a man-up tally, giving the Lasers a 15–12 advantage heading into the final frame.
Lasell maintained control in the fourth as Condon and Campbell each added goals before Sam Guilmette capped the scoring with a goal of his own to secure the 18–13 victory.
Martin and Campbell led the Lasers with four goals apiece, while Martin added three assists for a seven-point performance. Guilmette paced the playmaking with five assists, and Condon finished with three goals and an assist. LeBaron added two goals, while Halesworth contributed a pair as well.
Matthew Carbone was strong at the faceoff X, winning 17 draws and collecting nine ground balls to help Lasell control possession. Defensively, the Lasers totaled 41 ground balls, with LeBaron scooping up six. In net, Cameron Soave made 10 saves to earn the win.
Up Next: Lasell will be back on the field this coming Wednesday with a home-opener conference matchup against Emmanuel College.
