MLAX: Lasell Rolls to 21-2 Road Win Over Albertus Magnus
New Haven, CT - Lasell turned in one of its most complete performances of the season on Saturday afternoon, racing past Albertus Magnus for a 21-2 GNAC road victory at Celentano Field.
The Lasers took control right from the opening faceoff, scoring seven times in the first quarter to build a commanding early lead. Jason Martin opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the game off a feed from Jack Condon, and Lasell never looked back. Carson Tucker, Sam Guilmette, Julian Vogel, and Dom Dionisio all found the back of the net in the opening frame as the Lasers carried a 7-0 lead into the second.
Lasell kept the pressure on in the second quarter, adding seven more goals to stretch the advantage to 14-1 at halftime. Martin scored twice in the period, while Condon scored a pair of his own and Nate Campbell, Blake Cavallon, and Colin LeBaron also chipped in. Albertus Magnus broke through with its first goal at the 4:15 mark, but the Lasers answered with the final two goals of the half to stay firmly in control.
Martin finished with a game-high five goals and three assists to pace the offense, while Vogel added three goals and three assists. Condon and Campbell each scored three times, Guilmette added two goals and an assist, and Lasell saw 10 different players record at least one point in the win.
The Lasers continued to dominate possession throughout the afternoon, winning 23 of 27 faceoffs and scooping up 62 ground balls. Thomas Smedick went 9-for-11 at the X, Luke Mongillo won five of six draws, Matthew Carbone was a perfect 4-for-4, and Peter Doorley won all five of his opportunities.
Defensively, Lasell limited Albertus Magnus to just two goals and seven total saves were split between Dominick Ciarelli and Cameron Soave. Ciarelli earned the win after allowing one goal and making three saves in the first half, while Soave made four saves and gave up one goal over the final 30 minutes.
