MLAX: Lasell Dominates Mitchell
Newton, MA- The Lasell University men's lacrosse team delivered a dominant all-around performance on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Mitchell College, 25-0, in GNAC action at Grellier Field. With the win, the Lasers improve to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Lasell wasted no time setting the tone, exploding for 10 goals in the opening quarter. Nate Campbell opened the scoring just 43 seconds in, sparking a relentless offensive surge that saw nine different Lasers find the back of the net in the first half alone. Julian Vogel led the offense with five goals and two assists, while Blake Cavallon added three goals and an assist. Thomas Flynn and Nate Campbell each recorded two goals and two assists, and Colin LeBaron chipped in two goals and an assist.
The Lasers carried a 15-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Mitchell 32-8 in the opening half.
Lasell continued to pour it on in the third quarter, adding seven more goals behind a balanced attack. Cavallon, Flynn, and Vogel each scored in the frame, while Connor Gibson, Brady Swisher, and Cole Mackin also contributed to extend the lead to 22-0 heading into the final period.
The Lasers capped the scoring with three more goals in the fourth, including a man-up tally from Vogel to close out the 25-0 victory.
Defensively, Lasell was just as dominant, holding Mitchell to just 12 shots and winning the ground ball battle 41-6. The Lasers controlled possession throughout, going a perfect 22-for-22 on clears and winning 24 of 29 faceoffs, led by Thomas Smedick (8-9), Luke Mongillo (7-9), and Peter Doorley (8-10).
In goal, Cameron Soave and Dominick Ciarelli combined for the shutout, making six total saves.
Up Next: Lasell will be back this coming Wednesday with a road matchup against the Bluejays of Saint Joseph (Conn.).
