MLAX: Late Push Falls Just Short in Overtime Loss to Emmanuel
Newton, MA- The Lasell University men's lacrosse team mounted a strong comeback effort but ultimately fell to Emmanuel College, 8–7, in overtime Wednesday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup at Grellier Field.
Emmanuel controlled the early momentum, scoring three times in the opening quarter to take a 3–0 lead. The Saints extended the advantage to 4–0 early in the second before Lasell broke through with a goal from Carson Tucker off a feed from Nate Campbell. After Emmanuel responded with two more tallies to push the score to 6–1, the Lasers began to find their rhythm late in the half. Jason Martin closed the gap with a goal assisted by Julian Vogel, sending Lasell into the break trailing 6–2.
Lasell came out strong in the third quarter, holding Emmanuel scoreless while putting together a three-goal run to climb back into the game. Campbell started the surge with an unassisted goal before Jack Condon finished a pass from Sam Guilmette to make it 6–4. Campbell later converted on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Martin, cutting the deficit to just one.
The Lasers continued their push in the fourth quarter as Colin LeBaron tied the game at 6–6, finishing a feed from Martin early in the period. Emmanuel briefly regained the lead midway through the quarter, but Lasell answered again when Condon scored a man-up goal off another assist from Martin with 4:32 remaining to knot the score at 7–7.
Neither side could break through in the closing minutes of regulation, sending the game to overtime. Emmanuel secured the win just over a minute into the extra period scoring the game-winner with 1:19 remaining.
Condon and Campbell led the Lasers with two goals apiece, while Martin paced the offense with four points on one goal and three assists. Tucker and LeBaron each added a goal in the effort. At the faceoff X, Matthew Carbone delivered a strong performance, winning 13 of 19 draws and collecting a game-high 11 ground balls.
Up Next: Lasell will be back on Grellier Field this Friday with a non-conference matchup against Gordon College.
