NEWTON, Mass. – With the holiday season in the rearview mirror, the Lasell University spring sports teams are gearing up for the 2020 seasons. The game schedules have been released and are now available online on the official website for Lasell Athletics – laserpride.lasell.edu.
The spring seasons will mark the debut of four new head coaches for the Lasers, men's volleyball coach Jeff Vautrin, baseball coach Billy Uberti, softball coach Sarah Woodside and women's lacrosse coach Kelsey Russell.
The Lasell men's and women's track and field teams will compete in both the indoor and outdoor seasons over the next four months. There are six indoor meets in January and February, beginning this Saturday, January 11, at Brandeis University and culminating in the inaugural Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Championships on Sunday, February 16, at Boston University. The six outdoor meets begin at Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 21, and wind up at the GNAC Outdoor Championships at Saturday, April 25, at Colby-Sawyer College.
The Laser men's volleyball team opens its season next weekend, January 17-18, at the Misericordia University Tournament in Dallas, Pennsylvania. The team has 31 matches scheduled in the regular season, which concludes the first week in April. The home opener at the Lasell Athletic Center is slated for Wednesday, February 12, against Elms College, with the GNAC opener set for Sunday, February 16, vs Regis College and Rivier University. The GNAC playoffs begin on Tuesday, April 7, with the championship match on tap for Saturday, April 11.
The Laser men's lacrosse squad will open up its season at MIT on Wednesday, February 26, with the home opener slated for the following Wednesday, March 4, against Roger Williams University. The team will play a 17-game schedule, including two games on a Spring Break trip to Maryland. The GNAC opener is scheduled for Monday, March 16, at Albertus Magnus College, with the GNAC playoffs beginning on Saturday, April 25 and concluding on Saturday, May 2.
The Laser women's lacrosse team will play its first two game on home turf at Grellier Field on Tuesday, March 3, against Gordon College and Saturday, March 7, in the GNAC debut against Colby-Sawyer College. The Lasers will play 16 games in the regular season, including two games on a Spring Break trip to Puerto Rico in mid-March. The GNAC playoffs begin on Saturday, April 25 and conclude on Saturday, May 2.
The Laser baseball squad will open up its 40-game season on Friday, February 28, against Fisher College at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. The Lasers will take a nine-game Spring Break trip to the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida, beginning on Sunday, March 15. The first home games are also the GNAC opener, a doubleheader against Norwich University on Saturday, March 28, with all home games to be played at Brandeis University. The GNAC Tournament runs from April 28 to May 3.
The Laser softball team will open up its 40-game season with 10 games on its annual Spring Break trip to Clermont, Florida, beginning on Sunday, March 15. The team returns to New England for the home opener at Taylor Field on Saturday, March 28, vs. New England College. The first GNAC contests are slated for Saturday, April 4, at Taylor Field against the University of Saint Joseph (Connecticut). The GNAC Tournament runs from April 28 to May 3.
