MVB: Lasell Falls to Springfield 3-0
Newton, MA- The Lasers fell to Springfield College after a hard fought 3-0 match.
Lasell opened the match with strong energy, using balanced offense from Branch Barnes, Matthew Mitko, and Jasper Schultz to stay even with Springfield through much of the first set. Key kills and a solid block helped the Lasers match runs and keep the score tight in the middle stages. The set remained competitive late, but service errors and Springfield pressure at the line swung momentum. Lasell ultimately dropped the opening set 25-19.
The Lasers stayed competitive throughout the second set, matching Springfield point for point in a physical, back-and-forth battle. Schultz, Barnes, Paten Buckwalter, and Teddy Teraszkiewicz delivered key kills, while solid blocking at the net kept Lasell within striking distance late. Despite the strong effort and several late pushes, Lasell couldn't overcome Springfield's late run and dropped the set 25–22.
Lasell struggled to find momentum in the third set as Springfield jumped out to an early lead behind strong serving and quick offense. Mitko, Barnes, Schultz, and Ryan Tierney provided key points, and Lasell flashed defensive stops at the net with blocks from Buckwalter and Barnes, but Springfield continued to control the pace. A late Lasell push wasn't enough to close the gap, as Springfield pulled away down the stretch to take the set 25–14, and the matcho 3-0.
