Newton, MA- Lasell built a commanding first-half lead and held on late to secure a 12-10 conference victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field.
The Lasers came out sharp offensively, using a six-goal second quarter to take control of the game. After holding a narrow 3-2 lead through the first, Lasell exploded for six unanswered goals in the second, with Julian Vogel and Colin LeBaron leading the charge to build a 9-2 advantage heading into halftime.
Out of the break, Lasell extended its lead to as much as eight behind another LeBaron tally and a fourth goal from Vogel, who finished with a team-high four goals on the day. LeBaron added three goals and two assists, while Jason Martin facilitated the offense with three assists.
Saint Joseph's made things interesting in the third quarter, capitalizing on multiple man-up opportunities to score four straight goals and cut the deficit to 11-6. The Monks continued to push in the fourth, scoring four of the final five goals of the game to trim the margin to two.
A key insurance goal from Connor Gibson early in the fourth proved to be the difference, halting momentum and giving Lasell enough cushion to close it out.
In goal, Dominick Ciarelli made 15 saves to earn the win, anchoring a defensive effort that withstood 45 shots from Saint Joseph's. At the faceoff X, Matthew Carbone dominated possession, going 15-of-24 with a game-high 10 ground balls.
