Newton, MA- A second-half push wasn't enough for Lasell on Saturday afternoon, as the Lasers fell to unbeaten Rivier, 10-5, on Grellier Field.
Rivier set the tone early, holding Lasell scoreless through the opening half while building a 3-0 lead. The Lasers generated opportunities—outshooting the Raiders 17-8 in the first two quarters—but were unable to break through against Rivier goalkeeper Jake Lydon, who finished with 15 saves on the day.
Lasell found its spark coming out of the break, with Carson Tucker getting the home side on the board before Sam Guilmette followed less than a minute later to cut the deficit to 4-2. Despite the momentum shift, Rivier answered with a key stretch, scoring three of the next four goals to extend its lead heading into the fourth.
The Lasers continued to battle in the final quarter, as Tucker netted his second of the game and Jason Martin converted on a man-up opportunity to make it a two-goal game at 6-4. However, Rivier responded once again with a late run to pull away and seal the result.
Julian Vogel added a goal in the closing minute for Lasell.
Tucker led the Lasers with two goals on a team-high nine shots, while Martin (1G, 1A), Guilmette (1G, 1A), and Vogel (1G, 1A) each chipped in offensively. At the faceoff X, Matthew Carbone was dominant, winning 11 of 14 draws and collecting eight ground balls.
