MLAX: LeBaron Powers Lasell Past Gordon in 17-4 Win
Newton, MA- The Lasell University men's lacrosse team earned a 17–14 victory over Gordon College Friday afternoon at Grellier Field.
Lasell came out strong in the opening quarter, scoring seven goals to build an early lead. Gordon opened the scoring just over three minutes into the contest, but the Lasers responded quickly as Colin LeBaron evened the score off a feed from Jack Condon. Nate Campbell followed with an unassisted tally before LeBaron took over the quarter, scoring four additional goals during a dominant stretch. Condon added a man-up goal during the run as Lasell closed the first period with a 7–1 advantage.
The Lasers continued to build on their lead early in the second quarter when Carson Tucker found the back of the net to make it 8–1. Gordon responded with a quick offensive push, scoring three goals to cut into the deficit. Condon and Sam Guilmette each added goals for Lasell down the stretch of the quarter, sending the Lasers into halftime with a 10–5 lead.
Gordon continued to chip away early in the third quarter with two quick goals, but Lasell answered once again. LeBaron converted on a man-up opportunity before Campbell and Condon scored back-to-back goals in the final minute of the period. Gordon added a late tally, but the Lasers still held a 14–10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Fighting Scots continued their push in the final frame, scoring twice early to close the gap to two goals. Condon responded for Lasell with his fifth goal of the afternoon before LeBaron added another man-up tally to extend the lead back to four. Gordon added two late goals, but Lasell held on for the 17–14 victory.
LeBaron led the Lasers with a career-best performance, scoring eight goals on nine shots. The total surpassed his previous personal best and ties him for second-most goals in a single game in program history. Condon finished with five goals and one assist, reaching the 100-point milestone for his career during the contest. Campbell added two goals and one assist, while Guilmette recorded one goal and one assist. Jason Martin paced the offense with three assists. At the faceoff X, Matthew Carbone went 12-for-18 while collecting eight ground balls, helping Lasell control possession throughout the game. Peter Doorley also contributed six faceoff wins, while the Lasers finished with a 31–23 advantage in ground balls. In goal, Dominick Ciarelli made nine saves to earn the win.
Up Next: Lasell will hit the road this coming Wednesday for a conference matchup against Norwich University.
