Lasers Extend Conference Win Streak at Anna Maria, 75-61
The Lasell men’s basketball team pushed its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win streak to 5-0, defeating Anna Maria College 75-61 on Saturday evening inside the Fuller Center.
PAXTON, Mass. --- The Lasell men's basketball team pushed its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win streak to 5-0, defeating Anna Maria College 75-61 on Saturday evening inside the Fuller Center. The Lasers rise to 8-4 overall with the win, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 2-10 overall and 2-3 in GNAC play.
Lasell shot 42.4 percent from the field (25-for-59) while the AMCATS shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66). The Lasers kept the pressure on outside of the paint, allowing the AMCATS to tally just one three-pointer in the contest. The Lasers shot 89.5 percent from the free throw line (17-19), highlighted by 11-of-11 from Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, N.C.) in second straight perfect performance, while the AMCATS shot just 60 percent (6-10).
Omanovic led the Lasers in the first half with 15 points while teammate Yordan Villalon (Miami, Fla.) grabbed seven rebounds. John Powell (Ashland, Mass.) and Tim Blair (Newington, Conn.) each tallied eight points before the break.
Junior guard Liam Pickett (Oxford, Mass.) led the AMCATS in the first half with 11 points while freshman Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points and eight boards.
Omanovic added 19 more points in the second half for a game-high total of 34 points, his fourth performance past the 30-point marker. Powell added seven points followed by Blair with an additional six for a total of 15 points and 14 points respectively.
The Lasers host Mount Ida for a crosstown conference rival matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 10th starting at 8:00 p.m., while Anna Maria will travel to Emmanuel College for a GNAC contest on the same day at 5:30 p.m.
