XC: Ruch and Meeker Medal at Blazer Classic
Chicopee, MA- The Lasell University men's and women's Cross Country teams continued their strong start to the season with an encouraging day at the Blazer Classic, hosted by Elms College at Chicopee State Park.
The men's team was led by freshman Caleb Ruch, who once again made headlines by winning the overall race, adding himself to the 8km all-time list with the 9th best time in program history, and continuing to build on his outstanding debut season. Joining him in the spotlight was newcomer Juan Susa, who impressed in his first race for the Lasers with an 11th-place finish, helping to secure valuable team points and momentum.
On the women's side, sophomore Ella Meeker led the way with an impressive 7th-place finish overall, pacing the Lasers to another strong team effort. The squad showed great depth and improvement, highlighted by Molly Cohen and Paige Helferich, with Helferich running a personal best for the 6km distance, while Cohen shaved 2 minutes and 40 minutes off of her time from the same meet last year. Olivia Pennington demonstrated resilience, finishing less than six seconds off her lifetime best despite falling during the race, while senior Victoria El-Azem improved by 10 seconds compared to her performance at this meet last season, further underscoring the team's progress.
Up Next: The Lasers turn their focus toward the upcoming Corsair Classic at UMass Dartmouth on September 20.
