NEWTON, Mass. (8/29/14) – The Lasell College men's and women's cross country teams will open up their season on Saturday August 30th when they travel to Standish, Maine for the St. Joseph's College (Maine) Invitational.
Men's Cross Country
The men's team is coming off a season where they placed fifth at the GNAC Championships, and are looking to blend veteran leadership and experience with some new faces to continue to move the program forward. Seniors Kyle Northrop, Tyler Schwabe and Connor Devlin return from a season ago, along with junior Andrew Panther and sophomores Priamo Compres and Leo Saporta. A pair of upperclass newcomers, juniors Jeremy Shriber and Tyler Cohen will be joined by freshmen Nicholas Garifalos and Troy Gonsalves.
After their opening weekend the men will compete at Fitchburg State, the University of New England, Elms College and Emmanuel before heading into the post-season slate of GNAC Championships followed by ECAC's and the NCAA regional meet.
Women's Cross Country
The women's team placed sixth at the GNAC Championship meet in 2013, following one of the more successful years in the program's history. The women won the Pine Manor College meet and placed second at the University of St. Joseph's (Conn.) meet. The 2014 squad features four returning members from a year ago, senior Emily Kochanek, junior Jamie Russo, and sophomores Elizabeth Bennett and Brianna Wrubleski. The quartet will be joined by freshmen Shannon Hart, a newcomer from Mashpee, Mass.
The women's will head to Fitchburg State following their opener in Maine, then follow that up with trips to UMass-Dartmouth, University of St. Joseph's (Conn.), and Emmanuel prior to the GNAC championships in early November.
