Women's X-C Takes 8th at St. Joseph's Running Monks Inviataional

STANDISH, Maine (10/12/13) - The Lasell College women's cross country team finished eighth in the 12 team field on Saturday afternoon at the Running Monks Invitational hosted by St. Joseph's College of Maine. Jessica Smith and Rachel Knuth were the top two finishers for the Lasers, placing 29th and 39th respectively in the meet.

Smith posted a time of 22:48 for the 5K course, almost two and a half minutes faster than her time of a year ago and Knuth crossed the line in a final time of 23:13 besting her performance from a year ago by one minute and 134 seconds. The duo was followed by Jamie Russo in 45th with a time of 23:44, Elizabeth Bennett in 54th at 25:41, Alaina Eldredge in 68th at 27:57and Jessica Clark in 76th in a time of 30:19.

Husson claimed the women's team title with 61 points, followed by Emnmanuel (66), St. Joe's (Me.) 71, Nowich (112), Univ. of New England (123), Johnson and Wales (131), Emerson (184), Lasell (235), 9. Johnson St (256) Anna Maria (261), Thomas (327), Newbury (370).

The women's team will be off until Saturday November 2nd when they return to Standish, Maine for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships with the women's race starting at 12:00 p.m.
