Missett Leads Lasell Women's Cross Country to Fifth Place Finish at Elms
Chicopee, MA Junior captain Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) came in 12th place overall and led the Lasell College cross country team to a fifth place finish out of 17 teams at the Elms College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Chicopee, MA— Junior captain Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) came in 12th place overall and led the Lasell College cross country team to a fifth place finish out of 17 teams at the Elms College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
University of New England had three runners finish in the top five in the women's race to help pace their team to victory in Saturday afternoon's event at Chicopee Memorial State Park. Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) preseason favorites Johnson & Wales University finished second in the meet, while American International and Framingham State University took third and fourth in front of the Lasers.
Missett ran a personal best time of 21:12 at the meet, taking 28 seconds off her previous season-best of 21:40, and 14 seconds off her previous personal-best.
Fellow junior Amanda Driscoll (Roslindale, MA) was the second Lasell athlete to finish the course, clocking a time of 22:51 and finishing in the top 25. Driscoll also produced a personal best on the course, taking four seconds off her preceding time.
Freshman Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME) also notched a personal best for the season on the course. Carpenter took 12 seconds off her time, recording a finishing time of 23:25 at Elms, and taking 30th place overall.
Finishing with a season best time of 24:01 in 36th place was sophomore Christina Annicelli (North Easton, MA). Rounding out the Lasers fifth place performance were freshmen Alexandra Smith (North Easton, MA) and Alaina Eldredge (Sandford, ME). Smith finished the race with a time of 26:56 and Eldredge concluded in a time of 28:49.
Lasell outscored GNAC competitors St. Joseph College of Connecticut by one point at the meet. The Blue Jays finished in sixth place overall with 144 points.
The Lasers' next race is on Saturday, October 2nd at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College.
