WVB: Lasers Edged in Five-Set Battle at Brandeis
Waltham, MA- The Lasers were handed their second loss of the season following a hard-fought five set matchup against Brandeis University. Despite rallying from a two-set deficit, the Lasers (11-2, 2-0 GNAC) couldn't complete the comeback as the Judges (6-10, 0-3 UAA) closed out the decisive fifth set.
After narrowly dropping the first two sets, Lasell responded with a gritty 27-25 win in the third and carried that momentum into the fourth, where they held off Brandeis 25-21. In the deciding set, Lasell took an early lead, but Brandeis capitalized on key transition plays and service pressure to pull away late. Defensively, Madeline Caro anchored the back row with a match-high 20 digs, and Andrea Aceituno added 12. The Lasers totaled 76 digs and 18 block assists in the match, but hit just .075 overall against a strong Brandeis defensive front.
Senior outside hitter Morgan Bogli led the offense with 14 kills on a .265 hitting percentage, while also contributing six blocks and two service aces for a match-high 19.5 points. Shantte Siliezar added 13 kills and 10 digs to complete a double-double performance, and Sydney Katz orchestrated the attack with 31 assists and four aces, while also chipping in nine digs.
Up Next: Lasell will be back on their home court this Tuesday, with a conference matchup against Emmanuel College at 6pm.
