WVB: Lasell Volleyball Improves to 5-0 with Doubleheader Wins at WPI
Worcester, MA- The Lasell University women's volleyball team remains undefeared with an impressive doubleheader sweep on Saturday, taking down WPI in straight sets before outlasting Plymouth State in a five-set thriller. The Lasers opened the day with a dominant 3-0 win over the Engineers, then showed grit and resilience to edge the Panthers 3-2 in a back-and-forth battle, improving to 5-0 on the season.
Lasell vs WPI
Lasell controlled much of the match with a balanced attack and steady serving, finishing with 10 service aces and a team hitting percentage of .232. The Lasers edged the Engineers in total kills (50-33), digs (60-63), and points (63-44).
Senior Andrea Aceituno led the Lasers with a match-high 15 kills, hitting .237 on 38 swings, and added 13 digs for a strong all-around performance. Sophomore standout Trinity Silva continued to impress with 12 kills at a .345 clip. Junior Victoria Pariseault also turned in a dominant performance at the net, registering 9 kills with a .471 hitting percentage and contributing 2.0 blocks.
Setter Sydney Katz anchored the offense with 29 assists and added two service aces and 10 digs. Defensively, libero Madeline Caro tallied a team-high 14 digs, while Analee Ronas chipped in 12 digs and a team-leading three aces.
Lasell vs Plymouth State
Lasell came out strong in the opening sets, hitting a dominant .357 in the first and .289 in the second, before Plymouth State responded with two tight set wins to force a decisive fifth. The Lasers regrouped with a balanced offensive effort and timely defense to close out the match.
Silva and Aceituno powered the offense with 14 kills apiece, while Estella Feenstra added 10 kills in just four sets. Aceituno also added 11 digs and a service ace, while Silva hit an efficient .262 on 42 attempts. Morgan Bogli had one of her strongest all-around performances of the season with 8 kills (.269), 4 blocks, and a team-high 4 service aces for a total of 16.5 points. Katz directed the offense with 43 assists, 7 digs, and a block, while libero Caro anchored the defense with 28 digs — the highest of any player in the match.
As a team, Lasell hit .227 on 176 swings and held a slight edge in kills (60-52) and total points (78-72). The Lasers also held up defensively, matching Plymouth State with 6 total blocks and out-digging them 78-77 in a very even statistical matchup.
