Newton, MA - The Lasell University women's volleyball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3–1 win over non-conference opponent Wheaton College on Wednesday evening at the Lasell Athletic Center.
In front of a lively home crowd for their season opener, the Lasers took the match by set scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-11, and 25-23.
Lasell came out strong in the first set, hitting .320 as a team and edging Wheaton 25-23. After dropping the second set the Lasers responded decisevly in the third, with a dominant 25-11 win, fueled by consistent serving and powerful hitting. They sealed the match in the fourth, holding off a late rally by the Lyons to close out the set 25-23.
Senior Morgan Bogli was nearly unstoppable on the attack, registering 11 kills with no errors on 15 attempts for a career-best .733 hitting percentage. Junior Victoria Pariseault added 7 kills and contributed defensively with 2 solo blocks and 7 block assists.
Sydney Katz ran the offense efficiently, finishing with 41 assists and adding 4 service aces. Andrea Aceituno chipped in with 7 kills and 10 digs, while Madeline Caro led all players with 14 digs and added 3 service aces.
As a team, Lasell recorded 42 kills and hit .239 overall, while limiting Wheaton to just .017 hitting on 121 attempts. The Lasers also held the edge in total blocks 19-16 and digs 53-42.
Up Next: The Lasers will head hit the road this coming Saturday for a non-conference tri-match against WPI and Plymouth State.
