WVB: Six Lasers take home GNAC Awards; Caro wins GNAC ROY, Vautrin wins GNAC COY
Newton, Mass. - The Lasell Women's Volleyball team had six of their student-athletes take home Great Northeast Athletic Conference awards along with their Head Coach Jeff Vautrin, who took home the GNAC Coach of the Year award.
McKenna McCool (Loomis, Calif.) earned the first team all-conference honors after she accumulated 310 kills (5th in GNAC), 2.95 kills per set (6th in GNAC), 92 service aces (led GNAC), 0.88 service aces per set (led GNAC). All which she earned 423.5 points, which she finished fourth in the conference in that department.
Juliana Medini (Roxbury, N.J.) earned second team all-conference honors after finishing the season 1st in the GNAC in total blocks with 108 and blocks per set at 1.02, which is second all-time in a single-season in Lasell history.
First year athletes Saige Cambonga-Meyers (Springdale, Ark.), Sydney Katz (Ridgefield, Conn.), and Maddie Caro (Chula Vista, Calif.) all took home rookie awards as well. Cambonga-Meyers was named to the all-rookie team after she recorded 302 assists on the season and averaging 4.31 assists per set. Katz was also named to the all-rookie team as well as she split the setting duties with Cambonga-Meyers totaling 330 assists and averaging 3.93 assists per set. Caro took home and earned the GNAC Rookie of the Year. The Freshman Libero flat out dominated as she recorded 418 total digs the whole year and averaged 3.83 digs per set.
Sophomore Emily Cerasani (Buena Park, Calif.) took home the all-sportsmanship team for the Lasers. She chipped in 194 assists on the year and provided enough positive leadership to help bring the Lasers to the GNAC semifinals.
Third Year Women's Volleyball Head Coach Jeff Vautrin took home the GNAC Coach of the Year award. He led his program to a 19-14 overall record and 10-3 GNAC conference record which gave them the 3rd spot in the GNAC playoffs, winning a playoff match against Elms in the Quarterfinals before falling short against eventual GNAC Champions Johnson & Wales in the semifinals.
