NEWTON, MA- Behind a combined 25 kill effort by Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA) and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME), the Lasell College women's volleyball team defeated Johnson & Wales University, 3-1, in the Athletic Center on Tuesday night.
The Lasers easily took the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-14, at which point the Wildcats pulled together a run to beat the Lasers by three, 25-22, in the third set. Lasell regained their footing in the fourth game to take a final victory of 25-17.
Chappell, this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, led all hitters with 14 kills and an outstanding .444 clip in the match. She added five digs and five total blocks. Danielle Drapeau swung for the other 11 kills, with a .219 attack percentage, and an additional five digs.
Lasell's senior setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) tied her own record for most assists in four sets, recording 43 in the match. Crozier also picked up 11 digs for Lasell's only double-double of the match. Fellow senior Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) had a team-best 23 digs on the defensive end.
Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH), Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI), and Marisa Visocchi (Whitman, MA) all reached double-figures in the dig column for an outstanding defensive showing. They trio united to collect 42 digs.
Johnson & Wales had a standout defensive performance from Courtney Wright (Windham, NH) with a 31-dig night. Anne Marie Nowicki (Lancaster, NY) also gathered up 22 digs. Karlie Haack (Selkirk, NY) and Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, ME), the younger sister of Lasell's Danielle Drapeau, also scooped up over ten digs each. Haack accumulated 14 while Alyssa Drapeau amassed 10 digs. Alyssa Drapeau was also the only player of the match to nearly reach a triple-double with an additional nine kills and 26 assists.
Audrey Warren (Haverhill, MA) was the leading Wildcat attacker with 13 kills in the match and Julie Snarr (Glen Allen, CA) recorded an additional 13 assists as the secondary setter.
The Lasers (12-15, 4-4 GNAC) will return to action on Thursday at WPI for a 7:00 PM match against the Engineers. The Wildcats (5-22, 3-4 GNAC) will host Anna Maria on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM in their next match.
