NEWTON, MA- The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) leading women's volleyball team Salve Regina came to Lasell College Thursday night and topped the Lasers, 3-1, in the Athletic Center. The Lasers remain on a four game skid leaving their record at 7-11 overall (1-3 GNAC) while the Seahawks have won their last four straight and stand at 10-6 overall (5-0 TCCC).
The evening started with a presentation to recognize two Lasell seniors who recently hit some impressive milestones. Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) became Lasell's all-time leader in blocks and block assists, while also making rank on the GNAC's top 10 all-time block leader list as well. Drapeau ranks 9th in the conference for career blocks, standing at 257 at this time.
Meghan Crozier was also honored for reaching the 2,500 assist milestone this past weekend at a GNAC tri-match hosted by Simmons College. Crozier notched her 2,500th helper against St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday, becoming only the second Laser in program history to reach this impressive feat. Currently, Crozier's career assists stand at 2,569.
Salve came out to win the first two sets of the evening, 25-22 and 25-16, before Lasell returned to control set three, 25-23. The fourth and final set was a lopsided affair that landed in favor of the visitors, 25-12.
For the Seahawks, four players reached double-figures in the dig column, including Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, NH) who recorded the only double-double performance of the night. Duggan notched 14 digs and 15 kills in an outstanding effort for the victors. In addition, Clare Adams (New Concord, OH), Dianna Tauro (Melrose, MA), and Jessica Meyer (Seymour, CT) combined for 47 digs with a respective 15, 16, and 17 digs credited to them.
Taylor Violet (Tiverton, RI) handed out 36 assists in the contest with 14 kills being awarded to Julianne Barry (Randolph, MA). Adams also tallied nine kills and Katelyn Beauregard (Darmouth, MA) and Jackie Cinquemani (East Islip, NY) each put down five.
The Seahawks swung for a .215 attack percentage as a team and added six blocks and seven service aces to the mix.
Lasell was led offensively by sophomore Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) who put down 12 kills in the match, while also collecting eight digs. Freshman Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA) added 10 points on her attack and seven defensive pick-ups.
Defensively, Lasell's freshman Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH) had a match-high 17 digs, adding three points on her serve alone. Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) and Marisa Visocchi (Whitman, MA) collectively recorded 26 digs, picking up 15 and 11 respectively.
Crozier put up 24 assists in the contest, adding nine digs and Drapeau put away seven kills and three blocks in the setback.
Lasell will look to halt their four game skid this weekend at the Union College Invitational. Their weekend begins on Friday, October 7th at 8:00 p.m. against Hartwick College.
