BOSTON, MA- Lasell College women's volleyball dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matches to St. Joseph's College of Maine and Simmons College on Saturday at the Holmes Sports Center. St. Joseph's got the best of the Lasers in five sets, 3-2, while Simmons swept the competition, defeating Lasell, 3-0.
Lasell took a 2-1 lead through three sets against the Monks before ultimately dropping the final two sets to start the tri-match. The Monks stole game one, 26-24, before Lasell came back to win 25-21 and 25-20 in sets two and three. The match settled into a 2-2 draw through four sets after St. Joseph's earned a 25-21 win in the fourth and then took a 15-8 win in the deciding game.
Against the hosting Sharks, Lasell lost three straight, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-22. Simmons maintained an unbeaten 6-0 conference record at the conclusion of the tri-match and is currently ranked first in the GNAC standings.
Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) resumed her phenomenal play with two double-double performances over the weekend, marking her 9th and 10th double-doubles of the year. Crozier began with 42 assists and 26 digs against St. Joseph's and then added 16 assists and 12 digs against Simmons. She averaged 7.25 assists and 3.5 digs per game over the weekend.
Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) put up a team-best 16 kills against the Monks, adding six digs and four blocks in the match. In the second contest, Drapeau notched five kills and 12 digs, recording two blocks as well.
Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) tallied her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs against St. Joseph's. She then had a Lasell-high eight kills against Simmons in the defeat.
Also playing strong at the Lasers' net was freshman middle Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA). Chappell scored 14 points on her attack over the weekend and added 18 digs, split down the middle for nine in each contest.
On defense, Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH) came up big in the St. Joseph's game with 18 digs while Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) collected 13 digs against Simmons and added 12 against the Monks. Marissa Visocchi (Whitman, MA) made 20 defensive pick-ups between the two matches.
Lasell is now 7-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They return to their home court on Thursday, October 6th at 7:00 p.m. against Salve Regina in the Athletic Center.
