BRISTOL, RI - Roger Williams University women's volleyball thwarted Lasell College in a non-conference match on Tuesday night, 3-0, by set scores of 25-21, 26-24, and 25-17.
The first set was a seesaw of action as the teams traded points over a ten minute span. Neither team led by more than two points over the first twenty points before Roger Williams lodged a 12-9 edge on a Rebekah Dioh (Old Saybrook, CT) kill. Lasell mounted a 7-0 comeback on the back of Megan Gobeille (Lincoln, RI) and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) but the Hawks eventually ended the run and went up 1-0 in the match.
Lasell took advantage of Hawk miscues to undo an early Roger Williams advantage in the second set. The Lasers swung the game in their favor 21-19 on a kill by Taylor Riley (Greencastle, PA) and a service ace by Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) helped make it a 24-22 match. The hosts staged a resurgence of their own to score five straight points to hold off Lasell and go ahead, 2-0.
In the third set, Roger Williams raced off on a 7-0 run to take a 11-4 lead and maintained the advantage throughout the set. Lasell trailed by as much as eleven in the game before the Hawks took the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
Drapeau went eight-for-26 without an error to produce a .308 hitting percentage. She also came away with a team-best in kills and recorded the Lasers' only block of the match. Crozier handed out 19 assists and picked up 10 digs for her eighth season double-double.
Riley and Gobeille each finished with six kills and freshman libero Sarah Eisenberg (Westfield, MA) added 16 digs, one shy of a game-high.
Lasell returned home with a 9-16 record and will host a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match against Norwich University on Wednesday, October 20th at 4:00 p.m.
