Riley Named All-Tournament at Union Invitational

Schenectady, NY-- Freshman outside hitter Taylor Riley (Greencastle, PA) was awarded All-Tournament honors at the Union College Women's Volleyball Invitational as the Lasell Lasers went 1-3 over the weekend.


Lasell started the weekend with a 3-1 loss on Friday afternoon to the hosts, Union College.  The Dutchwomen earned the first two sets and then the Lasers reversed the table taking the third set, all by scores of 25-21.   Ultimately, Union won out in the fourth set 25-19.


Riley posted her first double-double performance of the weekend in the match with 14 kills and 22 dig.  The freshman also had two block assists.  


Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) was also a top performer with a double-double showing on 33 assists and 10 digs.  Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) and Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) matched with nine kills each, while also combining for seven blocks. Freshman libero Sarah Eisenberg (Westfield, MA) had four service aces and 17 digs in the match.


In the evening match, the Lasers faced Oneonta State and battled through four sets (25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 19-25) before falling in the deciding game, 15-12. 


Riley and Crozier once again were predominant for the Lasers, registering double-doubles for the second time in the day. Riley unleashed 15 kills and 11 digs and Crozier distributed 33 assists and 12 digs.  Drapeau added 12 kills, seven digs, and three blocks and Eisenberg led the team with 13 digs. 


On Saturday, Lasell resumed play against Skidmore College in the morning, dropping the match 3-0, by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-17. 


Crozier posted 19 assists in the contest, while Drapeau was the leader on offense with 11 kills, hitting a .524 clip.  Eisenberg was the top performer on defense with 12 digs and Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) chipped in with eight more.


The Lasers took a 3-1 victory in their final match of the weekend over SUNY Potsdam. Lasell won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21 before Potsdam stole away with a 25-18 win in the third set.  The Lasers finished off the match with a 25-21 triumph.


Crozier and Riley each tallied their third double-double of the weekend in the match.  Crozier put up 34 assists and dug up 12 balls on defense.  Riley went 14-for-36 on the attack with 15 defensive pick ups. Drapeau added in 12 kills and Barrett put away nine more.  Marisa Visocchi (Whitman, MA) added in an impressive 14 digs for the Lasers in the final match of the weekend. 


The Lasers will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, October 12th when they travel to Suffolk University for a 7:00 p.m. match.
