Boston, MA— The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team came out strong to earn a 3-0 victory over Lasell College on Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The victors commanded the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-14, and 25-16.
Lasell fell behind 8-2 early in the first set, but were able to bounce back trailing by just four points at 22-18. Nevertheless, the Saints returned to score the final three points of the set.
Carrying over the momentum into the second set, Emmanuel dominated early expanding a four point lead (10-6) into a nine point disparity at 21-12. The Saints went on a 4-2 run to win the frame.
A quick 4-0 lead by the home team started the third set, but the Lasers came back to put the score at 9-8, though still in favor of the hosts. At this point, Emmanuel erupted into a 15-8 stretch and eventually emerged with the match victory.
Junior Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) played a big role as the Lasers' setter, putting up 22 assists to her attackers. Crozier also used her defensive skills to come away with six digs.
Freshman Sarah Eisenberg (Westfield, MA) took on the majority of back court digs, collecting 28 in the three set match. Fellow freshman Marisa Visocchi (Whitman, MA) also tallied double-figures in digs with 12, and junior defensive specialist Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) aided to the effort with 15 digs.
Junior middle Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) led the Lasers in kills for the ninth time this season. Drapeau produced 10 kills against the Saints, her sixth double-figure night of the season. Junior middle Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) and freshman outside Taylor Riley (Greencastle, PA) matched with four kills each. Drapeau and Barrett combined for seven blocks.
The Lasers will host a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, October 2nd beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Framingham State University and the University of New England.
