Westfield, MA— For the second time this season, the Westfield State University women's volleyball team swept Lasell College, 3-0, in a non-conference match on Thursday night.
The Lasers kept the sets close(25-20, 25-21, 25-23), losing by no more than five points in any set due in large part to impressive defensive performances by senior libero Melanie Costa (Ludlow, MA) and junior defensive specialist Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA). Costa recorded her first 30-plus dig performance of the season, collecting 32 digs in the match, while Geary tallied 24 additional marks.
Offensively, Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) hit a .385 clip putting down six kills in 13 attempts with just one error. Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) added five kills as well as six blocks, on one solo and five assisted endeavors.
Junior setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) came up with 17 assists in the setback.
Lasell returns to action on Saturday, September 18th when they host a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tri-match in the Athletic Center. The Lasers will compete with St. Joseph's College of Maine at 10:00 a.m. and Pine Manor at 2:00 p.m. Pine Manor and St. Joseph's will face each other in the middle contest, start time set for noon.
