Corsairs Steals 3-1 Victory from the Lasers
Newton, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth came to Lasell College for a nonconference womens volleyball match on Tuesday evening, and walked out with a 3-1 victory over the Lasers. Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, Conn.) registered a game-best 18 kills throughout the four sets for the Corsairs, while Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) picked up a notable 31 digs in the contest for Lasell.

Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, Conn.) registered a game-best 18 kills throughout the four sets for the Corsairs, while Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) picked up a notable 31 digs in the contest for Lasell.
Throughout the first set, the two teams battled back and forth to secure a lead. After a 7-7 tie, Lasell broke away taking the first significant lead after kills by Jenna-Lynn Geary (Marion, Mass.) and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) pushed Lasell to a 10-7 edge. However, the Corsairs recovered to re-tie the score at 10-all shortly thereafter.
After more point-for-point action, Dartmouth finally pulled ahead for good, securing a 25-18 lead.
The second contest was a similar story as the score remained tight through the mid-teens before the Corsairs won the second set by the same scores as the first.
Lasell adjusted in the third set to come from behind, tying the game up at 18-all before scoring the final six points and taking the game 25-21. However, the final set belonged to UMass from the start as they went on a 7-1 run to open the contest, and closed the match with a 25-14 victory.
Aiding in the Corsair triumph were Cami Ascer (Natick, Mass.), Amanda Langfield (Somerset, Mass.), and Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, Mass.) who each put down seven kills in the contest. Distributing a balanced attack for UMass was setter Jessica Goncalves (New Bedford, Mass.) who dished 32 throughout the four sets.
In addition to Major's 31 digs, Geary also picked up 12 total attacked balls, adding two aces and five kills into the mix. Setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) made 28 assists to her front line, finding Drapeau at the net for 14 kills. Freshman middle Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) was close behind with 13 total kills, while also putting down three single blocks and two block assists.
The Corsairs complete the night at 8-2 overall, while the Lasers end at 4-7. Lasell will travel to Newbury College on Thursday, September 24th for another nonconference contest at 7:00 p.m.
