Lasers Split in GNAC Play over the Weekend
Boston, Mass.Lasells womens volleyball team split over the weekend in a GNAC tri-match with Simmons College and St. Josephs College of Connecticut, hosted by the Sharks. Lasell swept St. Josephs 3-0 then fell in four to Simmons, leaving their overall record at 9-21.
Boston, Mass.-Lasell's women's volleyball team split over the weekend in a GNAC tri-match with Simmons College and St. Joseph's College of Connecticut. Lasell swept St. Joseph's, 3-0, then fell in four to Simmons, leaving their overall record at 9-21.
Against St. Joseph's of Connecticut, the Lasers easily took three sets 25-12, 25-18, and 25-22. Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) led the pack of attackers with 13 kills on 27 total attempts for a strong .407 attack percentage. Drapeau was the only Laser that contributed a double-double in the contest, picking up 15 digs in addition to her offensive attack.
Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) distributed 31 assists in the three sets, averaging 10.33 assists per set. Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) put down nine kills of those assists, and Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) added seven more kills. Nichols, a freshman middle hitter, also came away with three unassisted blocks in the contest.
Lasell was led defensively by senior, libero Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.). Major averaged over seven digs per set, for a total of 22 digs in the three set contest.
In the second match of the day, Lasell opened with a 25-23 win in set one against the Sharks. Lasell then fell in three close sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-20.
Drapeau recorded her second double-double of the day, earning 14 kills and 10 digs, while adding 2 solo blocks. Nichols hit a clip of .323 in the match, with 13 kills on 32 attempts. The first year also put down two blocks, and added 10 digs.
Major averaged 7.25 digs per game in this match, for a match-best 29 total in the contest. The senior also produced two service aces over the course of the day.
Crozier was the third Lasell athlete to hit double-figures in two statistical columns as she produced 39 assists and 16 digs in the Simmons match.
With just two games left to play in the regular season, the Lasers are hoping to pick up two big wins over the GNAC foes. Lasell's next match is against Suffolk University on Tuesday, October 27th, with a 7:00 p.m. game time on their home court. The Lasers will then face GNAC defending champions Rivier College on Saturday, October 31st at 10:00 a.m., also at home.
