Newton, Mass.- The Roger Williams University Hawks flew past the Lasell College women's volleyball team for the second time this season with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday night. Lasell dropped the three games 25-15, 25-13, and 25-19.
The Lasers stayed in check with the Hawks through the eleventh point of the first set before falling behind due to the serving of Roger William's libero Jill Hurd (Sunapee, NH). The Lasers scored their final four more points on side outs before Hurd closed the game serving five straight points. The second set was almost identical before the Lasers were able to finish with a closer final game.
The Laser defenders were strong in the match, picking up 74 digs combined as a team. Jenna-Lynn Geary (Marion, Mass.) led Lasell with 17 digs, and close behind was Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) with 16. Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) also went into double-figures with digs, scooping up eleven in the three sets.
Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) put up12 assists for Lasell and added 8 digs and once service ace. And while the Lasers had over 100 attacks in the game, the Roger Williams defense picked up almost everything they attempted. Drapeau and Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) each finished with four kills, and freshman Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) added three more.
The Lasers will face the Seahawks of Salve Regina University on Wednesday, October 7th for another non-conference matchup. Game time is 7:00 p.m. in the Lasell College Athletic Center.
