Womens Volleyball Defeated by Rivier in Four Sets
Newton, Mass.Lasell College was able to steal one game away from defending GNAC Champs Rivier College but the Lasers fell, 3-1, in their final regular season game on Saturday morning.
Newton, Mass.-Lasell College was able to steal one game away from defending GNAC Champs Rivier College but the Lasers fell, 3-1, in their final regular season game on Saturday morning. The Raiders finished the day with a 20-12 overall and a 9-3 conference record while the Lasers fell to 10-22 overall and 5-7 in the league.
Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) competed with her usual high standards during the final home match of her career. The senior libero picked up 26 digs in the four sets. Junior defensive specialist Melanie Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) also picked up 14 digs in the match, while recording one solo and one assisted block.
Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) dominated the middle with 27 kills and 26 digs between them. Drapeau attacked with a .255 clip for 18 kills, with nine digs and one solo block, while Nichols added nine kills and 17 digs with two blocks.
Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) produced 34 assists in the four sets, averaging 8.5 assists per set. Defensively the sophomore setter recorded 7 digs.
Also contributing in the Lasers last home contest were Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) and Lauren Short (Scarsdale, NY). Barrett put down six kills and scooped up five digs. Short added five attacked balls and made seven defensive digs.
The Lasers are awaiting word on the GNAC post-season tournament.
