Lasell Overpowers Nighthawks
Brookline, Mass.-- The Lasers overpowered the hosting Newbury College Nighthawks Thursday evening with a 3-1 match set victory. Lasell has won three of their last four matches and currently has a 5-7 overall record. Senior captain Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) led Lasell defensively with a stellar 38 dig performance while freshman middle Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) was a force at the net with a team-best 12 kills.

Lasell pounced early, winning the first set 25-20, before falling behind in game two and dropping the set to Newbury 25-16. The Nighthawks held the momentum early in game three before the Lasers mounted a come-from-behind attack, ultimately picking up a 25-22 win. The pivotal fourth set closed the match with a quick 25-13 success for Lasell.
Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) distributed a strong offense for Lasell, dealing out 30 assists to her attackers. The Lasers finished with 38 team kills, ten of which came from Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) playing middle opposite from Nichols. Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) and Chelsea Rohrig (Milford, Conn.) each supplied five kills for the visitors, and Jenna-Lynn Geary (Marion, Mass.) had a fine all-around showing as she put down four kills, picked up 12 digs, and served up five aces in the match.
Also factors on the defensive court for Lasell were junior captain Melanie Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) who added 11 digs and sophomore Lauren Short (Scarsdale, NY) picked up seven.
This weekend the Lasers will head to University of New England on Saturday, September 26th for a tri-match with Babson College.
