Lasers Sweep Two GNAC Rivals at Trimatch
Chestnut Hill, Mass.Lasell picked up a pair of wins over Pine Manor College and Albertus Magnus College in a GNAC womens volleyball tri-match this past weekend. The Lasers took each contest 3-0, boosting their current standings to 4-6 overall, 2-1 in the conference.

The Lasers got off to a scorching start as Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) served the five opening points en route to six service aces in the contest. After taking a 10-5 edge, the Lasers took off on an 8-0 run with Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) serving, opening up a lead from which the Gators never recovered. Lasell took the set in a convincing 25-9 decision.
The second and third games were more of the same as the Lasers took down the Gators 25-14 and 25-13.
Crozier totaled 28 assists in the contest as the Lasers setter, while Major completed the contest with 7 digs. Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) was a huge presence at the net with 13 kills, attacking with an impressive .455 clip.
Also contributing to the mix were junior Melanie Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) and sophomore Jenna-Lynn Geary (Marion, Mass.) who each picked up six digs.
During the second match of the day, the Lasers faced off against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus. After a 25-18 first set, the Lasers closed out the second two games in a compelling manner with two victories in which they held the Falcons to under ten points each.
Costa served 17 straight points in game two, while in game three the Lasers went on a 7-0 run at the service hand of Geary.
Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) dominated the net with eight kills, while Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) and Chelsea Rohrig (Milford, Conn.) each registered six. Drapeau contributed an additional five to the group. As a whole, the Lasers hit a positive .426 clip during the match.
Crozier came up with 29 assists for Lasell in the second match of the day, and Major led the group in digs, with six.
The Lasers will next host UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
