T&F: Lasers Compete at UML Riverhawk Invitational
Lowell, MA- The Lasell University track & field teams delivered an impressive showing at the UML Riverhawk Invitational this weekend, with the women competing on Friday, Feb. 6, and the men following on Saturday, Feb. 7. The meet was highlighted by two school records, several all-time list improvements, and numerous personal and season-best performances.
Ella Meeker continued her standout indoor season for the Lasell women, breaking her own school record in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:23.12. The mark surpasses her previous record set earlier this season on Jan. 10 and now stands as the top time in program history.
On the men's side, Cameren Candelaria rewrote the record books in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 22.80 to break his own school record that was set at last year's GNAC Championships. His performance now ranks first all-time at Lasell.
Several Lasers also made notable climbs on the program's all-time lists. Dante Mills posted a 23.39 in the men's 200 meters, moving up to fourth all-time, while Colin Roderick improved upon his own mark in the men's 400 meters with a 52.74, solidifying his spot at third all-time. Juan Susa added two strong efforts, running 4:53.47 in the mile to move up to seventh all-time, and later setting a personal best in the 800 meters.
For the women, Victoria El-Azem made her mark in the 500 meters, clocking a 1:44.50 to rank fourth all-time at Lasell, while Lauren Ayotte improved her standing in the 800 meters with a time of 2:44.61, moving up to sixth all-time.
The weekend also featured a number of personal best performances across both squads. Evan Lewis (200m), Jordan Woodley (400m), Juan Susa (800m), Casey Davis (200m), and El-Azem (200m) all recorded new career-best times.
Additional season-best performances were turned in by Luigi Gentile in the 400 meters, Kat Kohtala in the 800 meters, and Molly Cohen in the mile, rounding out a strong team effort for the Lasers.
