Lasers Formidable at MIT Co-Ed Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Lasell College women’s track & field team was back in action on Saturday, February 12th at the second MIT Co-Ed Invitational in three weeks. Chelsea Zeig (West Nyack, NY) and Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME) stood out once again, with results good enough to break Lasell individual records in the shot put, the 200 meter run, and the 800 meter run.
CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Lasell College women's track & field team was back in action on Saturday, February 12th at the second MIT Co-Ed Invitational in three weeks. Chelsea Zeig (West Nyack, NY) and Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME) stood out once again, with results good enough to break Lasell individual records in the shot put, the 200 meter run, and the 800 meter run.
Zeig's marks keep improving with each meet as she topped her previous throw of 10.61 meters in the shot with a new record of 10.64 meters (34'11") on her first toss of the day. Carpenter took more than a second off the prior 200m fastest time (32.9) with her 31.02 second performance, and knocked off four seconds from the previous best in the 800 meter run, with a new time of 2:37.5. Carpenter finished 3rd overall in the 800m.
Five other athletes combined for eight additional top-ten performances at MIT. Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT) accounted for three of those showings, taking 3rd in the triple jump with a distance of 33'11.25", 4th in the 55 meter hurdles finishing in 9.42 seconds, and 9th in the long jump with a mark of 14'11.5". Kendall Logsdon (Palmer, MA) came in 6th, jumping a distance of 32'7.75" in the triple jump, and 8th in the 55 meter dash, clocking a time of 8.08 seconds. Logsdon also notched an 11th place finish in the long jump, with a distance of 14'3".
Alexandra Smith (North Easton, MA), Marisa Lewon (Norwich, CT) and Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) rounded out the top-ten showings on Saturday. In the 800 meter run, Smith came in 8th place with a time of 2:57.54, while in the 55 meter hurdles Lewon took the ranks at 10th, in 10.54 seconds. Missett took 7th place in the mile run, ending in 6:17.89.
In the 200 meter run, Kaitlyn Masionis, Kristen Cruickshank (Malden, MA), Meridith Bienvenue (Addison, VT), and Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, CT) all posted strong concluding marks in succession. Masionis clocked a 31.91, Cruickshank was next with a 32.44, Bienvenue finished in 35.06, and Lemoine ended in 36.49 in the two lap race.
Following a week off from competition, the women's track & field team will compete at the Open New Englands, a scoring meet that features Division I, II, and III athletes, on Saturday, February 25th.
