Women's Track & Field Shines at Smith Tartan Invitational
NORTHAMPTON, MA- The Lasell College women’s track & field team placed 6th out of 11 teams at the Smith Tartan Invitational on Saturday at Smith College. Amherst College took first place at the meet, scoring 214 points, followed by WPI in second with 178 points, and Smith with 123.

Lasell scored 40 points as a team, and was just narrowly edged by Wellesley College in 5th place with 43 points and Mount Holyoke in 4th with 48 points. Assumption, Seina, American International, Community College of Rhode Island, and St. Joseph's (L.I.) rounded out the field of competitors in 7th-11th place.
Freshman Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT) continued to shine for the Lasers in this meet, placing in three individual events and setting two new school records in the process. Peck placed 2nd, good for eight points, and broke her own record with a new distance of 10.44 meters (34'03") in the triple jump. She also set a new long jump record with a mark of 4.76 meters (15'7.5") and finished in 5th place. In the 55 meter hurdles, Peck came in 4th place with a time of 9.84 seconds.
Peck also anchored the 4x200 relay which came in 4th place with a time of 2:04.29. Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME), Kendall Logsdon (Palmer, MA), and Marissa Lewon (Norwich, CT) completed the foursome that set the Lasell record in the 4x200 event.
The women's distance medley relay (DMR) came in third place and took 10 seconds off the previous Lasell best, concluding the race in a time of 15:23.03. The DMR team was made up of Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA), Christina Annicelli (North Easton, MA), Alex Smith (North Easton, MA), and Carpenter.
Kristen Cruickshank (Malden, MA) and Chelsea Zeig (West Nyack, NY) additionally set new records in the 200 meter run and the shot put respectively. Cruikshank took a second off the old record and set the new mark at 32.9 seconds in the 200. Zeig placed 4th, throwing the shot a distance of 10.61 meters (34'9.75"), knocking out her own earlier record of 10.55 meters.
Adding five points to the Lasers total in the triple jump with a 4th place showing and two points with a 7th place performance in the long jump was Logsdon. The freshman jumped 32'11.25" in the triple jump and 15'4.75" in the long jump. Logsdon also finished 9th in the 55 meter dash, with a time of 8.03 seconds.
Next Saturday, February 12th, the Lasers women's track & field team will compete at the 2nd MIT Co-Ed Invitational of the year. The first event is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
