Newton, MA- Lasell used a dominant first quarter and a six-goal performance from Emily Watson to power past Regis (Mass.), 14–8, in GNAC action Wednesday evening at Grellier Field.
The Lasers came out firing, responding to an early Regis surge with six unanswered goals to take full control of the opening quarter. After trailing 3–1, Lasell rattled off goals from Watson, Lily Hunt, Ruby Cahill, and Mara Boldy, including three man-up conversions, to build a 7–3 lead after one.
Regis battled back in the second, cutting into the deficit behind a pair of goals from Serenity Ayala, but Lasell maintained its edge. Watson continued to lead the charge, scoring twice in the quarter, including a buzzer-beater to send the Lasers into halftime with a 10–6 advantage.
Both teams were held scoreless in the third quarter as defenses settled in, but Lasell regained momentum early in the fourth. Watson struck again to open the frame, and Emma Dressel added two second-half goals to help keep the Pride at bay. Goals from Boldy and Dressel down the stretch sealed the 14–8 conference victory.
Watson led all scorers with six goals and an assist, while Dressel added three goals and two assists in a strong all-around effort. Cahill chipped in two goals and two assists, and Boldy finished with a pair of goals as four Lasers recorded multi-point performances. In net, Tia Spenlinhauer earned the win with six saves in the second half.
