WLAX: Lasers Finish Fifth in GNAC Pre-Season Poll
Newton, MA- The Lasell University women's lacrosse team has been selected fifth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Poll as the Lasers set their sights on a strong 2026 campaign. Coming off a successful 2025 season that saw Lasell advance to the GNAC Quarterfinals, the Lasers are poised to make a deeper postseason run this spring.
Adding to the excitement this season is a shift in the GNAC format, as the conference moves to a round-robin schedule rather than divisional play. The change ensures that every conference matchup carries added weight, elevating the level of competition throughout the season.
Lasell returns a veteran core led by senior goalkeeper Joy Sayah, who has been a steady presence for the Lasers over the past four seasons, starting all but one game in her collegiate career. In front of her, junior Emily Watson continues to be a dynamic two-way threat. Over the last two seasons, Watson has totaled 53 goals and 39 assists for 92 points, while also contributing 102 draw controls and 37 caused turnovers. Junior Arianni Diaz anchors the defensive unit, finishing last season with 28 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls, providing leadership on the defensive end.
The Lasers will also rely heavily on an impressive sophomore class, highlighted by Alice Rourke, Mara Boldy, and Ruby Cahill. Rourke earned GNAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2025 after posting 46 goals and seven assists. Boldy was a defensive standout, recording 43 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers, while adding 17 points offensively. Cahill contributed across the field with 27 goals, 10 assists, 39 draw controls, and 37 caused turnovers, rounding out a formidable sophomore trio.
While Lasell will look to fill the void left by graduate student Kaitlin Bedell, the program welcomes an incoming class of 15 fresh faces eager to make an immediate impact. With a balanced mix of experience, emerging talent, and depth, the Lasers enter the season ready to compete in what promises to be a highly competitive GNAC race.
