WBB: Major Leads Lasell to Dominant 57–48 Road Win at Farmingdale State
Farmingdale, NY- The Lasell University women's basketball team traveled to Farmingdale State College and delivered a commanding 57–48 road victory,
Both Lasell and Farmingdale State traded baskets and momentum throughout a tightly contested first quarter, with defensive pressure and turnovers setting the tone early. Laura Johnson sparked Lasell offensively with finishes in the lane and strong work on the glass, while Shirle Major connected on a key three-pointer midway through the quarter. Both teams struggled to find a consistent shooting rhythm as physical defense led to several steals and forced turnovers, but timely baskets by both the Lasers and the Rams kept the score close at the end of a low-scoring opening quarter.
The second quarter remained just as competitive, with Lasell relying on strong interior play and defensive activity to stay within striking distance. Johnson continued to control the paint, piling up rebounds and adding to her scoring while also collecting steals, and Hailey Johnson chipped in timely buckets and rebounds to keep the game tight. Despite continued pressure and turnovers on both sides, Lasell went into halftime trailing by just one, 25–24.
Lasell delivered an energetic third quarter, using defensive pressure and timely shooting to seize momentum. Major caught fire, scoring on strong drives and a step-back three as part of her game-high 27 points, while also creating havoc defensively with steals. Laura Johnson anchored the paint with rebounds and defensive stops on her way to a double-digit scoring effort and a massive night on the boards, helping Lasell outpace Farmingdale State in the period and carry a narrow 35–34 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lasers closed out the game with a dominant fourth quarter, leaning on relentless defense and clutch free-throw shooting to pull away late. Major took control down the stretch, finishing 7-of-10 at the line and recording 6 steals to seal the win.
