WBB: Lasers Fall to UNW
Newton, MA- Back from break, the Lasell University women's basketball team was tested immediately in a thrilling battle with the Eagles of Northwestern (MN), ultimately falling short with a final score of 75-62.
Lasell opened the game with strong effort inside, as Daeserae Williamson scored early and Laura Johnson established a presence on the glass but shooting struggles and early turnovers slowed momentum for the Lasers. Despite Blaize Mack and Abigail Duclos helping create extra possessions, Lasell trailed 17–11 after the first.
The Lasers continued to battle in the second quarter, with Hailey Johnson attacking the rim and finishing efficiently on her way to 10 points. Erica Lendall provided a spark off the bench, knocking down multiple three-pointers, while Mack controlled the offense with assists and rebounds. However, Lasell's poor shooting persisted, and the deficit grew to 39–22 at halftime despite Laura Johnson piling up rebounds.
Coming out of the break, Lasell showed renewed energy as Mack scored and facilitated, Duclos added buckets and assists, and Alexis Bulson-Cuozzo connected from beyond the arc. Williamson and Johnson continued to battle inside, helping Lasell stay competitive on the boards, but turnovers and timely scoring by UNW extended the gap to 56–38 entering the fourth.
Lasell made its strongest push of the afternoon late in the game, led by Shirle Major, who finished with a team-high 14 points, including two three-pointers, and Lendall, who scored 13 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting from deep. Mack capped a strong all-around performance with 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Laura Johnson finished with an impressive 18 rebounds. Despite cutting into the deficit, Lasell could not overcome its shooting struggles and fell 75–62.
