Newton, MA – The Lasell University Women's Basketball team put on a stellar defensive effort on Saturday, defeating MCLA 55-30. The Lasers are now 1-1 on the season while MCLA is 0-2. The 30 points was the ninth fewest points allowed in program history, and the fewest since 2006.
After a close first quarter saw the Lasers outscore the Trailblazers 13-8, the Lasers turned things up, outscoring MCLA 16-2 in the second quarter. This included a 14-0 run over the first six minutes of the quarter. The Lasers would lead 29-10 at halftime.
It was a similar story in the third, as the Lasers would outscore MCLA 15-7, this time ending the quarter on a 7-0 run. The Lasers would empty the bench in the fourth quarter, and take a 55-30 win.
The Lasers were led by Kiara Cerruti, who scored 15 points. The only other double-digit scorer was Brooke Damboise. The difference maker for the Lasers was rebounding, as they outrebounded the Trailblazers 47-26. Blaize Mack had 11 of them, while Laura Johnson had 14. Johnson now has 29 across the first two games of the season.
Up Next – The Lasers will next play on Wednesday when they host Wheaton at 7pm.
