Farmington, ME - The Lasell Lasers defeated UMaine-Farmington by a score of 73-55 on Saturday. The win is the Lasers' first of the season, and moves their record to 1-3. The Beavers drop to 1-3 as well.
After the two teams went back and forth to start the first quarter, the Lasers used a 9-0 run to take a 15-7 lead. The Beavers would then use a 7-0 run of their own to get back into it. The Lasers would lead after the first quarter 18-14.
After opening the second quarter with a 7-0 run, the Lasers broke the game open later in the second, as they went on an 11-0 run to take a 36-18 lead. The Lasers would head into halftime with a 38-25 lead.
The third quarter was more of the same, as the Lasers had another long run, this time 8-0. This helped build their lead to 16 by the end of the third.
The Beavers never threatened to make it a game in the fourth, as the teams traded baskets throughout the quarter, before the Lasers ultimately took the win by a 73-55 final score.
The Lasers were led by Juju Nealy's 23 points on 8-13 shooting. She also dished out a team high six assists. Scoring in double digits was Sydney Brundage and Jasmine DePina, who each scored 10.
