Springfield, Mass. (11/20/12) - The Lasell College women's basketball fell to Western New England, 69-42 in their road opener on Tuesday evening. The loss drops Lasell to 2-1 on the season, while Western New England upped their record to 2-1 with their second straight victory.
Alexis Chappell paced the Lasers with 20 points, shooting 7-13 from the field and 6-9 from the charity stripe, while adding a team-high nine rebounds. Junior Kayla Vincelette chipped in six points and a team best five assists.
Western New England senior Emily Savino poured in a game-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, and freshman forward Chelsea Vujs added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
With Lasell up 10-8 seven minutes after the opening tip, Savino hit a 3-pointer on a skip-pass from Ali Pessolano to give the Golden Bears a lead they would never relinquish. Savino then scored WNE's next four points for a 15-10 lead as part of a 21-4 run to end the half as the hosts took a 29-14 lead into the intermission.
The Golden Bears scored 27 points off turnovers compared to 16 for Lasell, and Western New England tallied 17 second chance points to aid their cause.
