SB: Lasers Fall in Opening Game of GNAC Tournament
New Haven, CT- The Lasell University softball team carried an early lead into the later innings, but an eight-run fourth inning by Albertus Magnus College swung the momentum as the Lasers fell 9-1 in five innings on Wednesday afternoon in the opening game of GNAC Pod Play.
Lasell struck first in the opening frame as Alyssa Bland singled and swiped two bases to quickly move into scoring position. Adreanna Ventullo then delivered with an RBI double to left center to give the Lasers a 1-0 advantage.
The game remained a pitcher's duel through the first three innings, with Lasell holding Albertus Magnus scoreless and limiting the Falcons to just one hit through the opening three frames.
Albertus Magnus broke through in the bottom of the fourth, using patience at the plate and timely hitting to erupt for eight runs. The Falcons drew multiple walks before stringing together RBI hits from Gabby Rubino, Isabelle Smith, Amelia Boulli, and Karla Carangelo to take control of the game with an 8-1 lead.
Lasell looked to respond but was unable to generate another rally, managing four hits on the afternoon. Bland paced the offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance and two stolen bases, while Ventullo added Lasell's lone RBI. Emma Tarleton also recorded a hit for the Lasers.
Albertus Magnus added one more run in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Shyanne Raccio got the start in the circle, while Abigail Fortin worked in relief for Lasell.
