SB: Lasers Fall to Utica and Juniata in First Two Matchups of the Season

Clermont, FL- The Lasell University softball team kicked off its season in Florida, opening the campaign with a pair of games against Utica and Juniata. The Lasers battled in both contests but ultimately came up short, dropping both matchups.
Vs Utica:
Despite collecting seven hits, the offense could not keep pace as the Lasers fell 7–2. Abigail Fortin led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Alyssa Bland, Riley Michael, Shyanne Raccio, Adreanna Ventullo, and Sophie Arena each added a hit. The team's two runs came on RBI from Bland and Arena. Arena also recorded a sacrifice, while Bland added a stolen base to help create scoring opportunities. Ventullo and Fortin each crossed the plate for the team's runs. Defensively, Raccio and Fortin combined for a double play to highlight the fielding effort, though the Lasers committed one error. In the circle, Fortin pitched all six innings, allowing seven runs on 12 hits while striking out two and walking one.
Vs. Juniata:
Lasell University struggled to generate offense and ultimately fell 15–1 in a shortened contest. The Lasers recorded just one hit in the game, coming from Riley Michael, who tripled and later scored the team's lone run. Madalen Brown drove in the run with an RBI to account for the Lasers' only scoring play of the game. In the circle, Shyanne Raccio got the start, pitching two innings and allowing four runs while striking out one. Abigail Fortin followed with one inning of relief, and Keira Midgley closed the game with a scoreless frame. Defensively, Lasell committed two errors as Juniata capitalized on several scoring opportunities throughout the game. Despite the result, Michael's triple highlighted the offensive effort for the Lasers.
