SB: Lasers Drop First GNAC Game; Split Doubleheader with Elms

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers Softball team split a Saturday doubleheader with the Elms Blazers, falling in game one 3-0 and winning game two 9-1. The Lasers are now 21-9 on the season, and 5-1 in GNAC play, while the Blazers are 2-18 and 1-7.
Game One
It was a pitcher's duel early with neither team scoring in the first four innings. After the Blazers loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a walk in the fifth, they scored two runs on a two out error by the Lasers. They added an insurance run in the seventh to take the game 3-0.
The Lasers had six hits, with Emily Mestas recording three of them. Abigail Fortin started on the mound, and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two unearned runs. She was relieved by Eryn Sheeley, who pitched 2.2 innings, and allowed a run on a hit, while striking out five.
Game Two
The Lasers tallied 12 hits, led by Katie Hopkins' three. Ally Kirck, Brianna Gendreau, Mackenzie Still, and Matara Tamzarian each had two. Meghan Theall had the other Lasell hit. Meghan Theall pitched all six innings for the Lasers, picking up her fourth win of the season while allowing seven hits and one lone earned run.
Up Next - The Lasers will head out to Connecticut to take on Albertus Magnus on Sunday, with the doubleheader starting at 12pm.
Weston, MA - The Lasell Lasers Women's Lacrosse team fell to the Regis Pride by a final score of 16-11 on Saturday, dropping to 2-11 on the season and 2-8 in GNAC play. The Pride are now 6-7 and 4-6.
Regis scored four times in the first quarter, with Lasell scoring in the middle of those goals on an Emily Chapdelaine free position shot. The Lasers came alive in the second, outscoring the Pride 5-1. Teresa Kessner scored three goals in the quarter, including one while the Lasers were down a player. Chapdelaine and Kaitlin Bedell each scored a goal in the quarter as well. The Lasers led 6-5 at the break.
After the two teams opened the second half with a goal each, the Pride went on to score four straight goals. The Lasers would get one run back, and head to the fourth down 10-8. Both third quarter goals by the Lasers came from Chapdelaine. After the Lasers scored the first goal of the fourth, an unassisted shot from Kaitlin Bedell, they trailed 10-9. But the Pride would go on a 6-0 run before the Lasers would score again. Kessner scored twice in the last three minutes to bring the final score to 16-11.
The Lasers were led by Teresa Kessner, five goals, and Emily Chapdelaine, four goals. Chapdelaine also had two assists. Shannon Borbee led the team with five groundballs, one more than Chapdelaine. Chapdelaine and Kaitlin Bedell each had nine draw controls. Bedell and Kessner each added two caused turnovers each.
