Newton, MA- The Lasers hosted their first matchups of the season, opening with a tri-match against Sage College and Concordia-Wisconsin. Lasell posted a clean sweep on the day, winning both matches with a final score of 3-0.
Lasell vs Sage
Sage came into this matchup with hopes of snapping their winless streak but faced a tough challenge against the well-rounded Lasell team. Despite a strong start in set 1, where they kept the match close for most of the set, Sage ultimately fell 15-24. Lasell's offensive firepower in set 2 took over, as they won 26-24, despite a more competitive effort from Sage. The third set saw Sage struggle to maintain consistency, and Lasell finished the sweep with a 25-13 victory.
The Lasell offense was led by senior standout Theo Zaharewicz, who recorded 12 kills and a .429 hitting percentage in the straight-set win over Sage. Teddy Teraszkiewicz also contributed a strong performance with 8 kills, helping Lasell close out the match with a well-rounded attack.
The Lasers' offense proved too much for Sage to handle, as Lasell finished with 44 kills compared to Sage's 19. Despite a close second set, in which Sage made a push to stay alive, Lasell's consistency proved decisive.
Defensively, Benjamin Walinjom and Trystan Maloney provided strong blocks at the net, with Walinjom recording 5 blocks, including 2 solo blocks. Lasell's backcourt players, including Nathaniel Cobuzzi and Teraszkiewicz, kept rallies alive with solid defense and serve receive play.
Lasell vs Concordia-Wisconsin
Lasell continued its dominant play with another 3-0 sweep, this time against Concordia University Wisconsin. The first set was a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with Lasell ultimately prevailing 28-26 after a late rally. Reid Scott of Concordia had a standout individual performance, finishing with 15 kills on a .379 hitting percentage, but Lasell's offensive depth and defensive play proved too much for Concordia.
Zaharewicz again led the charge for Lasell, finishing with 16 kills and a .387 hitting percentage. Teraszkiewicz added 14 kills, and Maloney recorded 36 assists to keep the offense clicking. Lasell finished the match with a .243 team hitting percentage and 44 kills in total.
Defensively, Lasell's blockers were key to limiting Concordia's attack, with Walinjom and Teraszkiewicz playing a major role in the net defense. Cobuzzi and Maloney anchored the backcourt, combining for numerous digs to keep the ball alive.
Lasell closed out the match with strong defense, timely blocks, and consistent offensive production, moving to 8-1 on the season.
