T&F: Lasers Compete in Sean Collier Invitational
Boston, MA- The Lasell men's and women's track and field teams turned in an impressive performance this past weekend, highlighted by a school record, personal bests across the board, and numerous new entries on the program's all-time performance list. With athletes stepping up in every event group, the team continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
On the men's side, Cameren Candelaria had a standout day in the sprints. He shattered the school record in the 100-meter dash with a personal best of 11.20 seconds, finishing 22nd overall in the event and claiming the top wind-legal time in the GNAC this season. He followed that up with another strong showing in the 200 meters, running 22.85 seconds to place 23rd overall and move to No. 2 on the school's all-time list.
In the same 200-meter race, Max Corson ran a personal best of 24.09, earning him 47th place and the No. 7 all-time mark. Amill Houston finished in 24.29, with Jordan Woodley close behind at 24.33. Evan Lewis posted a new personal best of 24.94, while Spencer Villinski completed his return with a season-best of 37.00 in his only race back this year.
In the 400 meters, Amill Houston led the team again, finishing 21st overall in 54.40. Jordan Woodley followed with a personal best of 56.96 to take 28th, and Evan Lewis ran a season-best 57.88 for 30th place. Luigi Gentile added a time of 1:00.97 in his race.
Colin Brennan competed in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a wind-aided time of 17.45 to finish 19th overall. While not eligible for the all-time list due to the wind, Brennan's time still ranks him among the GNAC's best.
In the men's 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Colin Roderick, Luigi Gentile, Jordan Woodley, and Amill Houston combined for a season-best 3:53.97. Their effort placed them third overall and earned the No. 10 spot on the program's all-time list.
Zayshawn Griffin soared to a personal best of 6.48 meters in the long jump, placing fifth overall and moving up to No. 3 on the school's all-time list. His performance also ranks him third in the GNAC this season.
Alex McFarlane dominated the throws with personal bests in both the shot put and discus. His mark of 10.73 meters in the shot ranks him second all-time, while his 29.57 meters in the discus is now third on the all-time list. McFarlane also competed in the hammer throw, where he placed 20th with a mark of 29.02 meters.
In the javelin, Ryan Ventura threw a personal best of 35.66 meters to take 15th place and earn the fifth-best mark in program history. Max Corson followed with a strong 32.86-meter effort to place 16th.
The women's team also had an outstanding meet, with strong results across sprint, distance, jump, and throw events. Kayoni Jordan ran a personal best of 27.14 in the 200 meters, placing 13th overall and moving up to No. 4 on the all-time list. Hanna Babek added a season-best time of 29.27 in the same event.
In the 400 meters, Victoria El-Azem clocked a time of 1:18.51. The 800-meter group was led by Katherine Kohtala, who ran a season-best 2:38.16 to finish 28th overall. Victoria El-Azem followed with a 3:07.71, and Mikayla Bokis crossed the line in 3:20.72.
In the 1500 meters, Ella Meeker delivered a personal best of 5:26.26, placing 34th overall and earning the No. 3 spot on the program's all-time list. Olivia Pennington also posted a personal best with her time of 6:12.77, and Molly Cohen finished in 7:09.42.
In the hurdles, Colleen Bartel recorded a wind-aided 18.86 in the 100-meter hurdles to place 22nd overall. While the time is not eligible for all-time rankings due to wind, it marked another consistent performance from Bartel.
In the long jump, Kayoni Jordan recorded a wind-aided mark of 4.33 meters.
The women's throwers continued to show great depth and growth. In the shot put, Susy Daniels led the team with a throw of 9.21 meters to place 23rd overall, followed closely by Savannah Werner with 9.12 meters for 24th. Jenna Sargeant threw 8.06 meters, and Damali Waugh added a personal best of 7.23 meters.
In the discus, Daeserae Thomas threw a personal best of 24.89 meters to finish 26th overall. Jenna Sargeant added a throw of 21.77 meters, and Lillian Sullivan contributed with a mark of 19.74 meters.
The hammer throw saw more personal bests and all-time performances. Lillian Sullivan led the way with a throw of 26.35 meters, placing her fourth on the program's all-time list. Susy Daniels followed with a 25.76-meter throw to earn the fifth-best mark in school history, and Jenna Sargeant threw 23.80 meters.
In javelin, Mikayla Bokis threw a season-best of 23.46 meters. Savannah Werner followed with a personal best of 21.80 meters, and Hanna Babel closed out the event with a personal best of 14.74 meters.
