Salem, MA- The Lasell University men's soccer team closed out its last non conference matchup of the season on Wednesday evening with a 5–0 loss to Salem State University. With the result, the Lasers fell to 4–12–2 overall, while the Vikings improved to 8–3–6.
Salem State opened the scoring early and never looked back. In the 10th minute, Iago De Sousa-Vieira put the Vikings on top 1–0. Despite several first-half opportunities for Lasell, including four shots on goal, the Lasers entered halftime trailing by one.
The Vikings extended their lead in the second half, finding the net four more times.
Lasell goalkeeper Reed Brown made 12 saves in the match as the Vikings peppered the net with 32 total shots, including 17 on target. Offensively, Dante Mills led Lasell with four shots, two of which were on goal, while Liam Thompson and Antonio Calabrese also generated scoring chances.
The Lasers played the final 33 minutes shorthanded after Daniel Augustine was issued a red card in the 58th minute. Salem State goalkeeper Brady Whitmarsh earned the shutout, turning aside all four shots he faced.
Up Next: Lasell will be back on Taylor Field this Wednesday for their last regular season matchup of the year, against GNAC opponent Regis College.
