Newton, MA- The Lasell University men's soccer team battled the Cadets of Norwich University to a tightly contested 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon, as both sides exchanged scoring chances in a high-energy GNAC showdown.
The Cadets struck first just three minutes into the match, capitalizing on a long throw-in that led to their lone goal of the day. Despite the early setback, the Lasers responded with composed play and steady pressure throughout the first half.
Lasell generated several scoring opportunities but struggled to find the final touch until the 64th minute. Dante Mills threaded a ball through the middle of the box to Owen O'Brien, who made a quick touch to beat the Norwich goalkeeper—sliding in for a last-ditch stop—and slotted home the equalizer to make it 1-1.
With the score level, the final 25 minutes saw both teams ramp up their intensity in search of a go-ahead goal. Lasell's defense remained firm, allowing just three shots during the final stretch, while the offense fired off six shots and earned a corner kick. Despite their efforts, the Lasers couldn't break the deadlock.
Freshman goalkeeper Reed Brown delivered a standout performance in net, recording nine saves while conceding just the early Norwich goal. Lasell outshot Norwich 15-12 and held a slight edge in corner kicks, 5-4.
Up Next: Lasell will be back on their home pitch this Wednesday, for another vital GNAC matchup, this time against the University of Saint Joseph (CT).
