Salem, Mass - The Lasell University Men's Soccer Team kicked off their 2022-2023 season against the reigning MASCAC Champion Salem State Vikings falling 3-1 at Alumni Field on the O'Keefe Sports Complex.
The Lasers struck first as senior Midfielder Elisio Nascimento (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored his first career goal at the 21:10 minute mark in the first half. Then, the Vikings would respond when Brendan Walsh (Westford, Mass.) put Salem State on the board at 31:47 in the first half to tie it up at the half. Then, the Vikings would take the lead for good as they scored 2 unanswered goals coming from Dylan Senra (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Patrick Filetti (Newburyport, Mass.) at the 49:46 and 65:04 minute mark in the second half, respectively.
Salem State lead Lasell in shots attempted (19-7) with 15 of those shot attempts being on goal compared to the Lasers, who had 6 shot on goal attempts. Lasell sophomore Goalkeeper Antonio Centracchio (Springfield, Mass.) recorded 12 saves compared to his counterpart Matt Hauntsman (Milford, N.H.), who recorded 5 saves.
The Lasers fall to 0-1 and the Vikings improve to 1-0.
The Lasers are back in action on September 6th at 4:00 PM where they are set to host Fisher College at Taylor Field while the Vikings host Wheaton College September 3rd at 1:00 PM at Alumni Field.
