Milton, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers men's soccer team was defeated by the Curry College Colonels, 3-1, Sunday at Walter M. Katz Field.
The loss drops the Lasers to 1-7 on the year while the win improves the Colonels to 3-2-3 on the year.
Colonels got the first goal of the game in the 41st minute when sophomore Justin Santiago (La Plata, Md.) played a ball to fellow classmate Giovanni Martins (Brockton, Mass.), who blasted it off the hand of Laser goalkeeper freshman Gabriel Bazikas (Southborough, Mass.) and into the back of the net.
Curry added to their lead six minutes after halftime when Martins dribbled around one defender and pushed a pass through two Lasers finding junior Ryan Brady (Weymouth, Mass.), who took the shot first-time with his right foot and put it in the left corner for the goal.
The Lasers clawed one back five minutes later when senior Kevin Pitt (Bayshore, N.Y.) fired a long cross from the right side into the box, finding a diving senior Alexander Tavitian (Woburn, Mass.) for the headed goal. The goal marked Tavitian's first goal in a Laser uniform.
Following a Laser corner kick in the 86th minute, the Colonels got the ball on a counterattack which found two Curry attackers against on Laser defender. Senior Richard Silva (Pompano, Beach, Fla.) led the break, and played a decisive through ball to Martins hitting him in stride before he took a few dribbles and put it past the keeper's left.
The Lasers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 29, when they travel to Emmanuel to take on the Saints in a conference clash. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
